The opening shots of a video are vital - they set the sense of place, time or tone for what follows. In this case tone was the most important aspect so we start the video with a series of filmed portraits, a celebratory feel to highlight the key people contributing to positive change:
Sometimes we encounter technical issues, in this case the microphone recording for the key interviewee came out corrupted - words glitched or missing altogether - something that was unchecked by the camera crew on-site. Luckily they had also recorded audio via the on-board camera microphone as a backup; it's not great as it's distant with lots of room reverb, but I was able to render it usable it thanks to a few audio restoration techniques I have up my sleeve:
This short clip shows how it all comes together, from the initial rough cut to the final edit - colour grading, cutaways and music elevates the basic material into something that flows with feeling:
Photos were a mixture of real-life and stock to help illustrate some sections. I used some simple light-flash transitions, camera click sound effects and movement on each photo so they feel more dynamic:
With a focus on positive outcomes, this video brought together success stories, bringing humanity to the forefront in an engaging way to help celebrate and promote the initiative.
